MEGAYARD: Day 27

Paul tinkering round with the lead flashing. He had a special bashing tool that me and Kodie were quite in to.

Back from friday night swimming and the floor is half filled in.

The stair wall has been flagged. Nice job!

Bit of reclaimed stone from the farm across the road at the bottom.

They've even replaced those concrete flags that were a bit worn out (okay, accidentally smashed in by me chopping logs up on them)

Spanish-style chimney pot. El duderino. Hopefully the smoke will draw through okay. Was a bit worried that a normal chimney pot would let too much rain pour down into the barbie.

That sombrero in close up.

MEGAYARD: Day 26

It was a bit stressful this morning when I had to point out that what they'd built wasn't the same as what was in my head, but Paul was figured out that extending it by half a brick would be no mither, so that's what he's done. And he's only gone and put a flipping mantlepiece on top too! I LOVE IT.

There's the chimbley.

Those side flaps are really cute, I can't stop looking at it!

MEGAYARD: Day 25

Leaving for work this morning, they'd already cut out the stone flag that the BBQ's going to be sunk into, can't wait to get home!

Ta-dah! Looks great, but unfortunately I realised that I should have drawn a side elevation because I had asked if it could come out the whole depth of the flag (and drew it on the plan view) but obviously it wasn't clear enough. Not really looking forward to discussing that tomorrow morning!

MEGAYARD: Day 24

Zoe had to go to the dentist at 11.30 today so I hung around at home watching excitedly out of the back door as it all took shape.

The proportions are coming out so nicely. Mega chunky. I'll head to work for the afternoon and see how far they've got by 4.00...

MEGAYARD: Day 23

I've said it before and i'll say it again - these fellers don't hang around! I like the way that the flags have turned out - they're now sold in irregular packs rather than just laying down all 2x3s, looks a bit more fun.

A few bits of wide, flat stone leftover from the top wall that I was going to use for crazy paving have been set as a little retaining wall against the beech hedge.

MEGAYARD: BBQ sketch out

Paul popped round this morning and we got our heads together figuring out how the cupboard / BBQ module thing would work. We made a lot of sketches, mucked around with stone and had some fun figuring it all out.

There's the neat version we'll work off. I miss my drawing board, had to use a shatterproof ruler and a credit card.

There's all the stone flags ready to go down at some point next week when it finally stops raining.

MEGAYARD: Day 22

Cats and dogs today, water everywhere.

Ooh! What are these. Made me realise i've still not got any firm plans for how the back storage bit will be made, i'll have to get the pens and paper out with Paul over the weekend.

Ta-dah! The roof is on, nearly there!

MEGAYARD: Day 21

I think they got rained off today, not much action, a bit more woodstain went on by the looks of it, the corrugated perspex and gutter / drainpipe have arrived too. And that's not all that's turned up...

MEGAYARD: Day 20

Put my foot in it a bit this morning, i'd assumed that the two planks screwed together against next door's  wall was just some temporary measure and I asked where the 'real' upright was going to go. Turns out that actually was the 'real' upright, but I thought a matching solid wood beam would look better positioned where the original stone upright went. Paul reckons there's a manhole underneath that concrete so when I got back from work it was nice to see they'd picked up another nice piece of wood and filled in the original floor with concrete again.

Cross beams on and half a can of woodstain too.

Foundations for the back storage unit thingybob.

There was half a tin of woodstain when I got home from work so I thought i'd show willing and get the top painted before the perspex sheets go on.

MEGAYARD: Day 19

That's the supporting wall finished off then. Upright pillar's still looking very eye-catching.

I can see that working as an ideal launching ramp for Hotwheels.

MEGAYARD: Day 18

Wooh, looking totally roofy now. And what's that over there...

Steps are in!

Up we come...

Nice job on the top step, not sure what i'm going to do behind the back of the roof yet through, maybe a few more of these flags.

Loooking good!

MEGAYARD: Day 17

Whoo, what a sight! Feels like we're nearly there now. Not sure where the other post is going to go. Had a bit of a re-think about the original design where the 3 wheelie bins would go along the left hand wall, as the wall has moved inwards and the steps are wider than I had planned, i'm really worried that if we put the bins in, it's going to feel a bit cramped inside. I've not really thought through a plan B though, maybe they can go back where they've always been down the alley against the houses but i'm a bit disappointed. I'm not sure how we're going to sort out a gate to keep Kodie in either... Maybe it'll be a bit easier to figure out when we have all the building stuff out of the way and I can have a play around.

Coming together!

Looks really big from up here, Kodie's gonna go mad when it's finished and he can play outside.

The stones from dismantling the original wall seem to have lasted out well, just a few left. Going to see if I can use them to terrace the garden a bit when we've got the yard finished.

Think my lovely lupins might not have survived having several tons of stone on top of them, but wonder whether my precious grown-from-a-seed spruce tree is okay.

Phew.
